Eat Noodles Love Noodles: Dim Sum @ Ping Pong - Is It THAT Bad?

Baked  Fried Dim Sum As I was dining alone (I took it for granted I couldn't persuade anyone to join me at Ping Pong), I went for the Ping Pong Collection (£9.95) in order to try out ten different dim sum.

The baked/fried dim sum came out first, and my first impressions were that the spring rolls were stingily filled and a bit 'supermarket'.

Two, maybe three, acceptable dim sum out of eleven is pretty lamentable, and the food was as poor as I remembered from my previous visit to Ping Pong a few years ago.

In fact, there is a risk that some are put off dim sum altogether by Ping Pong.

Their new coconut dessert also tasted weird.

Asked for chili oil and even that had no flavor to it.

Service was also quite poor, our waitress seems like she was in a hurry and annoyed whenever she had to take an order or answer questions.

She wasn’t friendly at all, not even once the whole time we were there.

Overall we chose to dine there because we thought Chinatown would be too crowded for CNY but with the price of the food, quality of the service and taste, we definitely regret spending our money and time there.

Ping Pong has nine restaurants dotted across the city, but we made our way to the chain’s first location, Great Marlborough Street, for a post-work dinner.

Ping Pong’s central location means that it’s a great stopping off spot for shoppers, workers and almost everyone in-between with a good mix of both small groups, couples and parents treating their grown children to a meal maintaining a lively atmosphere.

The sharing nature of Ping Pong's menu lends itself well to both group outings and to formative dates in a fledgling relationship where you can bond and fight over who gets the third and final dumpling.

Ping Pong’s dim sum and bao selection is made with a group mentality in mind, with most of the menu’s items coming in sets of three (with some dishes coming with the option to add on 1 more for an added cost) so sharing is heavily encouraged.

Ping Pong’s drink menu is varied with plenty of Chinese tea options and a healthy cocktail menu.
